Match Report | Sparsholt entered two teams in the end-of-season Zooters tournament at the Ageas Bowl on 24 July. With the start of the holidays numbers were a challenge which we met by recruiting some boys from Andover for the day to make sure we could give as many of those available a chance to take part. Sparsholt Red Sox were the less experienced team and had a tough group but worked hard in their matches and clicked with their colleagues from Andover. They were unlucky not to record a win and went out in the first knockout round after another tight game. Sparsholt Snakes took a little time adjusting to playing with the windball but found their stride in the afternoon going all the way to the plate final. After a tight win in the final quarter final over Andover they secured a big win in the semi final over Old Netley. By now it was raining and dark but they were up for the challenge. They posted a decent total and bowled and fielded tightly but their total was just overcome by Burridge. The boys received their runners-up medals from Chris Wood of Hampshire at 19.30, 10 hours after starting their first match. The team were a mix of year groups and showed excellent team work and skills. Bowling was tight just as in the league season with low scores conceded, catches held and run-outs taken. They all found the boundary regularly and looked for runs well. All the team are worthy of note: Ben Cook (c), Thomas Bentley, Joseph Benzie, Thomas Fagg, Archie Goddard, Ben Kipps, Oscar Kipps, Oscar Penzer, Sam Vowles |
