Match Report | Rain over the last few days had made the square on the Norman Edwards Ground soft underfoot, but thanks to Dave ? improvisation our U9 game against Broughton was able to take place. Put into Bat first, each pair played their shots and started to build a decent score. Notable knocks from Arthur Molden (20) and Archie E-G (15) provided a firm foundation and debutant brothers William and Thomas Meghoran also played very well to ensure a credible score for Sparsholt to defend. Between innings a superb cricket lunch provided by the Sparsholt parents was very well received by all, and we hope will leave a lasting impression of Sparsholt's quality hospitality. Than you to all who contributed a dish. Returning to the field laden with sandwices, pizza and cake, our young Captain for the day, Bertie Lander, rotated the bowlers well and ensured each boy did their best to bowl straight and true. Some great fielding and good backing up of the throw limited Broughton to mostly singles, while two catches behind the wicket showed benefit in developing wicket keepers, even at this early age. Without some of our more experienced players available, this was a convincing win and shows that Sparsholt U9s now have healthy competition for places. Seeing the team enjoy themselves as a group and being magnanimous in victory was superb. Many thanks to Bill and David for scoring and umpiring, and to Tim, Emma, Debbie and Alice Lander for helping over lunch and the clear up. Well done one and all!! |
