Following the pre season friendlies the First team kicked off their campaign at Home against Langley Manor, Andy Worth lost the toss and was promptly asked to bat by the opposition. Missing a few players for the first game Mike Haworth opened up with Lewis Dunford. Lewis fell early and Kyle Ruffel in his first SEPL game built an partnership to take the score to 52 before Haworth was stumped off Craig Renders. A collapse followed with Sparsholt losing5 wickets and the entire middle order for 32 runs. Vokes , Worth and Whiting tried to repair the damage but with the ball turning and Render bowling accurately Sparsholt were all out for 106 with Renders taking 7 for 28.
Langley Manor was cautious but the bad ball was put away as Connor Brown last years leading run scorer made 29 beofre being clean bowled by Haworth , Dave Gough chipped in with an LBW and Mike Haworth claiming the pother opener but Langley manor cruised to their target in the 25th Over.
Sunday took the National Village Knockout side to Amport for the first round of the prestegious competition aiming for a potential trip to a final at Lords. Amport won the toss and stuck Sparsholt into bat, Worth and Haworth opened up and sonn had a 49 partnership before Haworth fell LBW for 36. Worth and Dunford took the score to 76 before with was adjudged caught behind for 25. An unfortunate run out ended Dunfords innings for 19 which brought Dan Pickering to the crease. He hit a quickfire 44 with support from Tom Foster with an assured 56 taking the score in excess of 200. Quick boundaries from Mike Doubell, Alex Dilley and J Vokes gave Sparsholt a very respectable 243 from their 40 overs.
The Amport response came with two early wickets from the pace of Dilley , the dangerous Landown batting at 3 for Amport hit some big boundaries and Amport looked like they were in the chase,Dilley managed to have Langdown trapped LBW for 29 and Amport lost 3 wickets for 2 runs, Bone and Ayers both put up resistance but in the end the bowling attack was too strong with Dilley taking 4 for 21, Haworth 1 for 43 Doubell 2 for 27 and J vokes 3 for 37 to wrap up the tail leaving Amport on 169 all out.
