Sparsholt 189 all out beat Totton & Eling II 93 all out by 96 runs
Cala Homes sponsored Sparsholt won their second match of a rain affected season, moving to a more comfortable mid table position after a good performance at Southern Gardens. As the first real sunshine of the summer reached the south coast, Sparsholt were invited to bat, but soon lost Jayden Derosa as bowlers were able to extract early movement. Ed Jenner (21) and Lewis Dunford looked to repair the damage, but both were dismissed just as they looked to be settling in, Dunford to an outstanding low gully catch by Adam Carty. The visitors wobbled at 41 for 3, but again skipper Andy Worth (31) and Jon Sankey (31) repaired the damage. Worth was run out with the score at 96, and Stu Tognarelli followed immediately before Tim Vokes, left, (33) and brother Jon (20 not out) took the score to 189. Luke Mooney (3 for 26) mopped up the tail, with Nick Edens and Brendon Reis taking two wickets each.
Without the injured Steve Wright, Sparsholt needed early wickets, and their wish was granted as Alex Dilley (right) dismissed Simon Ennew first ball, Another Dilley wicket, plus one for Jon Vokes left the hosts struggling at 11 for 3. Rich Dibden and Nick Jenkins did their best to halt the slide, but the rampant pace attack supported by tidy wicket taking spells of Jayden Derosa and Tim Vokes were not to be denied. Dunford juggled an excellent diving catch to dismiss Jenkins (21), as Jon Vokes (3 for 38) completed an excellent spell. Dilley (4 for 33) returned to take the last two wickets as the hosts were dismissed for just 93 in less than 30 overs. Sparsholt entertain Paultons at Locks Lane on Saturday.
On Sunday, Sparsholt participated in the National Village Cup Regional final as they travelled to Hambledon. Despite Tim Vokes’ 5 wicket haul, they were unable to prevent Hambledon from becoming regional champions. More to follow at www.sparsholtcc.co.uk
