Posted by Tony Edwards on 5 October 2016
Sparsholt Cricket Club members, club sponsors, CALA HOMES, ST JAMES PLACE, SYDENHAMS BUILDERS MERCHANTS, WINCHESTER GOLF ACADEMY, JACAMO CLOTHING, along with guests who travelled from London and as far a field as Norfolk to support the annual golf day which for the third year was held at Test Valley Golf Club on Saturday 17th September 2016
28 golfers took part in the 18 hole Stableford competition with some terrific and not so terrific golf being played on a lovely day! The eventual winner with a very creditable 45 points was the cricket clubs off spinner and BBQ King Mike Doubell who won for the second time in three years. Mike’s prize was a round of golf along with 2 guests at the wonderful Goodwood Downs Golf Club, very kindly donated by Marlon May of Eight Wealth Management Ltd.
Jon Foster came second, winning a Golf Bag, very kindly donated by Winchester Golf Academy.
There was a tie for third place between Tom Foster and golf day debutant Norman Gough.
Tom Foster won the longest drive and Colin Waite (Sydenhams builders merchants) nearest the pin. The team competition was won unsurprisingly by the Mike Doubell, Jon Foster, Tom Foster and Nick Doubell team.
The golfers, their guests, other cricket club members, wives and girlfriends attended a wonderful meal and presentation evening with the excellent prizes being presented by Gary Booth (Winchester golf academy) Colin Waite and Chris Douglas who very kindly sign-writes the club's honours boards.
Vice Chairman and event organiser Richard Edwards acted as master of ceremonies and thanked CALA HOMES for their magnificent and continued support of the cricket club as main sponsor and all their work in supporting the local community. CALA HOMES are the developers of the very exciting KINGS BARTON development of 2000 homes in Winchester. CALA HOMES show house complex will be opening very shortly.

There was a very special presentation made to David Banks who, during the 2016 season, became the first batsman in history to reach 7,000 Southern Premier Cricket League runs since the leagues reorganisation in 2000. David who joined Sparsholt for the 2016 season has also become the club's new groundsman.
Andy Worth presented a brilliant slideshow and told stories of how he joined Sparsholt, the personalities he has encountered, his experiences and hilarious stories from his time at the cricket club and the 2016 season.
Richard Edwards rounded off the evening by saying that there are a lot of exciting developments being made by the cricket club and the future looks very positive.
