Sparsholt Juniors make it to another Cup Final

Posted by Nobody on 2 July 2014

On a beautiful sunny evening at Princes Mead School, Sparsholt U11 A Team, captained by Jacob Hartley from Weeke Primary, took to the field to play against Fair Oak A Team in the semi-final of the Oliver Cup.
Having lost in the same semi-final last year by just 1 run, Sparsholt were eager to overturn that result.
Winning the toss and opting to field first, Sparsholt took a first quick wicket removing County Player Monaam through a fantastic run out by Zach Corner from Compton Primary.  Wickets then fell steadily with another two fine catches from Zach, another from Elliot Colyer (Sherbourne House) and then tight bowling and 2 wickest each for Jacob Hartley, Thomas Ley (Sparsholt Primary) and William Evans (Princes Mead).  Keen fielding restricted the experienced Fair Oak side to just 99 runs all out from their 20 overs.
Sparsholt batters started nervously but steadily facing accurate and quick bowling from Fair Oak.  The top order of Joseph Cook, Elliot Colyer and Zach Corner all fell by the 8th over.  Thomas Ley and Man of the Match Jack Phillips (Compton Primary) then had a great partnership, with Jack top scoring with 28 including 4 boundaries to achieve the required 100 runs in the 18th over.
Sparsholt will now play the Oliver Cup Final on Sunday 13th July against Easton & Marty Worthy at Twyford Cricket Club.

Sparsholt U11 A team continued their unbeaten run in the Winchester Warriors Cricket U11 A Division with a convincing win over IBM Hursley.  Opting to field first, Thomas Ley took 3 wickets for only 6 runs in his 4 overs with Jacob Hartley taking 2 wickets for only 6 runs in his 4 overs.  Other wickets fell to Elliot Colyer and William Evans and tight fielding restricted IBM to just 70 runs.  Sparsholt opener Joseph Cook got out first ball, first time in the season he has batted and scored under 13 runs !  Elliot Colyer and Man of the Match Thomas Ley then had a steady partnership scoring 27 not out and 30 not out (off 24 balls and including a 6) respectively.  Sparsholt reached 71 for just 1 wicket in the 9th over.
