Sparsholt 122 for 6 beat Paultons 118 all out by four wickets.

CALA Homes sponsored Sparsholt bounced back from their narrow defeat at top of the table Trojans last week as New Zealander Kyle Ruffell steered them home with a hard hit 41 not out. In a low scoring affair, Ruffell’s innings (along with Jeremy Frith’s bowling) proved to be the difference between the teams, Sparsholt’s earlier batsman having struggled in the same way that Paultons had earlier in the afternoon. Ruffell came to the crease with half the side already dismissed (Jack Murrell 2 for 40, Rob O’Brien 3 for 31) and 54 runs still needed but he eased Sparsholt to their third win of the season scoring 36 of his runs in boundaries receiving good support from Jeremy Frith and skipper Andy Worth. Earlier Paultons skipper Tony Richman won the toss and elected to bat as the start was delayed briefly by light rain. He probably regretted his decision as his team plunged to 49 for 6 before Rob O’Brien (36), Simon Ennew and Rob Pike at least gave the total some respectability. Sparsholt’s opening bowlers were more effective than last week with Dave Banks and Ruffell taking a wicket each to remove the openers. Jeremy Frith (5 for 28) then ripped out the heart of the visitors batting, including the in form Richman, with Jon Vokes and Dave Gough (2 for 10) finishing off the tail. Worse for Richman was that he ended the day watching from the sidelines as a hamstring injury forced him to leave the field. The victory puts Sparsholt in fourth place in the league table -  on Saturday, they visit Bashley Rydal, but will be without Jeremy Frith who is unavailable due to commitments back home in Guernsey for a week or two. In a good day for the Ruffell family, Kyles brother Michael, who is also in England playing Southern League cricket at Gosport, scored 80 not out in a crushing win over Hursley Park.

Sparsholt II 142 all out lost to Holybourne 179 all out by 37 runs.

After three good wins Sparsholt seconds failed to chase Holybourne's 179 (J Patel 53) ending on 142 all out from 39 overs (Spencer 3 for 41, Bochereau 3 for 19). Nyan Phagami (3 for 34 and Jamie Skeoch 4 for 31) bowled well and whilst the same pair were batting together victory seemed a real possibility. But when Phagami went for a beautifully timed 45, no one was able to support Skeoch who notched his maiden half century finishing on 57 not out.

Thirds lost by 4 wickets Sparsholt 80 all out , IBM Hursley III 81-6.

On Sunday, Sparsholt visited premier division outfit Burridge in the Southern League T20 competion. The home side rattled up 213 for 4 as their top order batting all contributed. William Seward led the way with 42 not out, Dan Hewitt, Joe Collings-Wells and Geoff Dods all added 38 each. In reply, Stuart Tognarelli hit an impressive 66 as he and Dave Banks (also 38!) put together an opening partnership of 106, but once Banks went, scoreboard pressure told, and the Sparsholt innings closed at a creditable 160 for 7.
